A FRESCO investigation into online capabilities

New Zealand member organisations and communities

FRESCO has undertaken a snapshot assessment of the online capabilities and strategies of a hand-full of New Zealand communities. We think that the massive promise of the internet is falling well short of being realised by organisations that consider themselves to be 'communities' and this study set out to discover some of the reasons why.

Delivering more, faster and better.

The pressure is now on websites to deliver better content and tools that are fast and accurate. This in turn throws the spotlight on usability for the visitor and on the ability of a site administrator to deliver dynamic content within a highly capable website.

Flightdec’s goal is straightforward; provide the best possible website performance based on the particular requirements of the organisation and make sure that self management remains as easy as possible. Read more.

Mashable story underlines usability… again.

A recent story in Mashable.com covers a report which looked at checkin applications – these are the toys in location based social media websites such as Foursquare, Gowalla and Brightkite.

According to the story the applications were tested against Ease of Use, Location Accuracy, Connectivity with Friends, Social Media Integration, Opportunities to Receive Special Deals and Ability to Earn Status. The results from the test showed that 46% of respondents voted ‘Ease of Use’ as the most important criteria for choosing a checkin service. This was well ahead of the second most important, ‘Location Accuracy’ at 24%.

This shows once again how consistently people rate usability as by far the most important functional attribute in a website. We also think that website operators should be thinking more about their own operational usability and the efficiency required for administering websites well.
